Christina Torres is one of the many heroes in the Logan Square community. She is a mother of three children and a happily married wife. She is very close with her family and family is very important to her. She is very smart and passionate about the work she does. Christina loves helping people and seeing them strive to be the best they can become.
Christina has been in the LSNA since she had her first daughter. She started as a volunteer and just became attached. Shes been a parent consultant for about four years now. she loves working with parents. “I love working with parents and I love having parents realize that they can do things whether they speak english or not.” Christina feels that everyone should voice their opinion and help make an impact in the community. She wants to help get the word out on all the major issues that are going on in the community. She feels that everyone should be aware of what their children are doing and what’s going on in their school. She’s very passionate about the work she does.
Christina is the president of the LSSFC (Logan Square Facilities Council). She helps inform the community about the alderman’s plans for shutting schools down. She was involved in the fight to help save Ames Middle School. She goes door to door in the neighborhood and informs parents about what’s going on and what needs to be done to help not only the schools but the community as well. She is concerned about how far children would have to go to get to their nearest school. She feels that if more parents were involved in their children’s education then it would help the fight. Christina feels everyone should work in solidarity together to help make a positive impact in the community.
We asked Christina about her thoughts on heroes and she replied, “I think a hero is someone who stands up for what’s right and wrong, and sees the wrong they do.” Her hero growing up was both her mom and aunt. Her mom is her hero because she provided for her and her aunt because she helped raise her and teach her how to become a mother. Her hero now is her kids. They are her heroes because they always make her happy even when she has the worst days she could possibly go through. In her opinion she feels that anyone could be a hero as long as they have the qualities that people look for. She is very open-minded.
Christina feels that education is very important. She feels that now a days you need more than a high school diploma to have a good paying job. She wants to continue her education and do something more with her studies. She feels that education is the key to success. She hopes that students should get to know the resources they need in order to continue with their education. She hopes to see her son and daughter go to college on different coasts of the country. She feels that anyone can succeed as long as they are on track
I.learned that Christina Torres is indeed a hero. She inspires me to want to succeed in my education and make something out of my future. She helped teach me that there are advantages in school and we should take life by the reins and make what we want out of it.
Anything is possible and with help from the community we can make our dreams come.
